Nothing says spring like bright colors … and a pretty pop-of-color lip is such a fun (and easy) way to start getting into a new seasonal look!
While bold lips may seem tricky, the key is choosing a shade that’s right for your skin tone and then to tailor it to suit your tastes.
If you prefer a sharp, clean look, start by filling in your lips with a neutral liner before applying lipstick with a brush. For a more subtle effect, just smudge the lipstick with a fingertip, and let the edges stay soft and imperfect.
Before you test out a bright spring lip, remember: with saturated shades, it’s especially important to have a flawless face that’s free of flakes and blemishes.
Start off any look by exfoliating away those winter dry spots with Simple Skincare Smoothing Facial Scrub add hydration and sun protection with the Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF 15, and keep the rest of your makeup natural — this look is all about the lips!
Three Spring-Inspired Lip Shades:
– Hot Pink: Go for a shade with blue undertones if you have a cool skin tone and orange ones if you’re warmer. Don’t be afraid to rock hot pink lips with fair skin; the effect is not for the faint-of-heart, but can be super-glamorous both for daytime and for evening. Just remember to pair this color with a nude or subtle peach blush so as not to saturate your face with too much pink.
– Electric Orange: It’s a tricky shade, but when done right, it’s absolutely spectacular (especially with white, cream and pastel clothing – it’ll really pop against a pale blue or lavender blouse). On the spring 2014 runways, the look was super-defined and architectural, but if that’s too bold for your taste try smudging on the shade and skipping the gloss for a subtler look.
– Soft Apricot: A natural face with a peach lip gives you a sun-kissed, elegant look. Keep the focus on your skin by exfoliating with Simple Skincare Exfoliating Facial Wipes and then applying a subtle self-tanner to kick-start your warm-weather glow.
