Could Sensitive Skin be Hiding Under Problem Skin?

Unless you were one of the lucky few not waking up with a huge pimple the moment you turned sixteen, you probably remember that breaking out (at the risk of sounding too scientific, here) just … sucked.

Of course once you “become an adult” all the breakouts would clear up but what if that never happened to you? What if, products designed to help, only hurt your skin or made things worse?

That could be a sign that you don’t just have “problem skin,” you actually have sensitive skin.

Sensitive skin comes in all skin types, from very dry to very oily, to combination. The problem with most acne treatments is that they can irritate sensitive skin, making breakouts and skin conditions that can result in breakouts worse, according to WebMD.

Dermatologist and Skincare Expert, Dr. Debra Luftman says that, even when you have problem skin, that inflammation is a sign of sensitivity. Essentially, this means that when your skin is irritated, you’re more likely to break out.

So, what can you do? First, try using products that are gentle and have no dyes, perfumes or harsh chemicals, and steer clear of using too many products in your daily routine. That can irritate your skin even more.

Try starting with the Simple Skincare Foaming Cleanser following by the Simple Skincare Soothing Toner, which has witch hazel, a plant known to soothe and calm irritation. Even if you have oily skin, use a moisturizer! In fact, some skin can become oilier if you skip this step. Start with something light, like the Simple Skincare Ultra-Light Gel Moisturizer and see how you like it.

Happy Skincare!
